　　影片根据真实事件改编，讲述了爱尔兰慈善家克里斯汀娜·诺布尔的故事，她在越南成立一个专门救助贫困儿童的基金会。克里斯汀娜·诺布尔1944生于爱尔兰都柏林，一直受到父亲的恶言谩骂，母亲去世时才年仅10岁，就被送入孤儿院。后来又流落于爱尔兰街头，受到轮奸后怀孕，被迫放弃孩子，让别人收养。18岁的克里斯汀娜来到了英格兰，结了婚，有了三个孩子，这段生活也不幸福。丈夫的暴力行为让她精神崩溃，很长时间内，一直与抑郁症苦苦对抗。就是在这种人生的低谷阶段，她毅然决定投身于帮助贫困儿童的事业，来到越南追寻她的梦想。
